A short story on how personal development skills can help change your perspective on lifes ups and downs.
Having recently visited my doctor β and feeling a little nervous β I was greeted with a very solemn face and told to come in. Sitting on the edge of my seat as if I were in the Head Masterβs office, I bumbled through trying to explain why I was there. The lady concerned had excellent listening skills β but no smile. I dried up feeling more and more uncomfortable and I am sure I hadnβt made much sense!
We talked through this and that β still no smile. Once everything had been sorted out and the end of my appointment was nighβ¦ she smiled, relaxed and smiled in fact quite a bit. I felt so much better! I smiled backβ¦ so we were all smiling! It made a great difference.
This reminded me of all the sadness and difficulties people have faced over the last couple of years. So I decided to smile at people more to help lift the mood of the nation (my little bit). This included smiling more when driving, giving way to another driver, thanking and smiling to people in the street when walking and of course smiling to those I work with and family.
With my recent visit I remembered again the value of a smile and how much it can make tension go away, change the ambience and also make us all feel much happier.
Soβ¦. I am re-introducing the smile β the cheapest and most effective way to feel better and to help the ambience in your workplace and maintain good working relationships.

Smiling is infectious, you can catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling too! π
When I go for my early morning runs in the morning (06:00 ) I always smile and say good morning to fellow runners and dog walkers. It not only makes me happy but in turn they smile back which is lovely.
“A smile gets involved nothing, but carries a big one out.”
A smile conveys confidence and professionalism
I love life and I am always with a smile! Not to say that I haven’t had my fair share of trials and obstacles in life, but through it all I know my smile has made a huge impact on how I have dealt with these and i know how much my smile has impacted on other too, especially my kids!
I am all for re-introducing the smile:), keep smiling! Your smile is contagious
Not everyone is aware of the power of a smile. My mum always says that smiles open doors and she is right!
Back in the early ’80s a colleague advised me to smile when talking to people on the telephone as he believed it could be ‘heard’ in your voice. Almost 40 years later and I’m still recalling that advice and smiling at people on the telephone.
Absolutely right, a smile costs nothing and it can really change people’s day. My friend once said that her smile was the last thing she put on before leaving the house – I liked that.
It is also good to remember that laughter really is the best medicine, it makes me feel so good when I have had a good giggle/laugh over something with someone.
Science proved that smiling lift the mood, lower the stress and boost your immune system. It’s awesome isn’t it ?! so keep smiling, it’s free!
Smiles go miles π
I’m like to greet my colleagues as they walk through the doors with a smile and good morning, its a great way to start the day.
Smiling is so important!
It really does catch on. Being greeted with a smile or spoken to with a smile really does lift your mood and makes those around you smile too!
Great article about the importance of smiling and being kind.
Smiling is very important, as a smile can uplift you and other people around you.
Just Keep Smiling for a happier world!
Great article. Smiling can make such a difference, both to the person doing the smiling, and to the one seeing the smile. It takes 43 muscles to frown, and only 17 muscles to smile – so just keep smiling!
My early Yoga practice puts a smile on my face for the whole day! The good energy created helps me to be more patient and productive for the day ahead π
I always smile and say good morning/afternoon to people I’m walking past. It’s a simple thing that can really make a difference.
So good morning/afternoon everyone π
I work in the medical field at present and a smile can make so much difference. As colleagues, a smile to each other can make the day seem just a little bit better. Patients are much more comfortable and willing to build a rapport if I smile at them and I feel so much better myself if I can muster a smile in my day π
A smiles costs nothing and yet it is worth so much!
