Introduction
Studying Medical Terminology is useful for a wide range of different jobs – from working as a Medical Secretary, working in a pharmacy, Medical Receptionist, Ward Clerk, working for a pharmaceutical company, or even working in a medical legal organisation.
The Medical Terminology course covers the syllabus to gain the AMSPAR Level 2 Medical Terminology award, or if you prefer to complete the whole course through distance learning you can choose to sit the NCFE Medical Terminology exam.
How can I study this course?
- This course can be studied from home or the workplace and is 100% online.
- You will complete an assessment at the end of each unit which is submitted electronically with the option to re-submit if not at the required standard, gradually building your Diploma as you go through the course.
- You will have continuous tutor support throughout the course providing feedback, guidance, worked examples and hints and tips as you study.
- We have weekly start dates.
How long will it take me to study this course?
- As a guide the course will take up to 200 hours to complete OR 6 weeks if studying full time.
- This course is open for 10 months to provide plenty of flexibility for holidays, illness and busy times so you can study at a pace to suit you.
What qualifications will I achieve?
You will receive the following Diplomas upon successful completion of this course, issued by NCFE – a UK leading vocational qualification awarding body:
- AMSPAR Medical Terminology Level 2 Award OR
- NCFE Medical Terminology

- Additional fees are charged by AMSPAR should you wish to sit their exam and are payable directly to them about 2 months prior to the exam date. Currently charging in the region of £200.

The Medical Secretary diploma takes you through a wide range of topics from Spreadsheets, Power point presentations, Professional working relations to Medical terminology, everything a Medical Secretary would need to know and more. The Modules are very detailed and take you through the lessons step by step, so they are suitable for completer beginners, as well as for those with some previous experience.
My tutors were Jen, Rebecca and Simon. They were absolutely brilliant, as they helped and encouraged me throughout the course. Even at times when I felt I wasn't doing well, the tutors were sympathetic and assisted me to work through my lessons. A couple of units did not necessarily relate to my current role (petty cash and letters) but if I was to to change company then this may differ and I would have more confidence in what to do.

A great course! It has helped me refresh existing skills and learn new ones. The coursework and content were engaging and comprehensive. The tutors are friendly and responded to emails quickly, returning feedback promptly which allows you to move through the course at a good pace. Overall, it has been beneficial, allowing me to add to my knowledge and the qualification has aided enrolment on to my next learning course and will also support my CV.
I studied the Level 3 Executive PA Diploma with Lewis college and the college provided me with informative and very supportive Tutors who help you through the course of your choice. The in depth units help you to develop a growing skill set and I am exceptionally happy with the contents of the course I chose, as well as the supportive help from my knowledgable tutors. I have recently finished an Office Admin Diploma with Lewis College and I cannot recommend them enough. The work was fun to do, although challenging. The tutors were extremely helpful and always there for any questions I had, big or small! Whilst working full time and being a mum and wife, I did need to put in the time on evenings and weekends, however this was definitely worth it. The course took me roughly ten months to complete, but can be completed sooner.
I had no knowledge on this subject or any computer skills at all when starting this course, so it is definitely beginner friendly. This course has helped me to feel more confident moving forward with a change in career planned in the future.

I have attended the Advanced IT Diploma course to enhance my Office application skills. Despite having a good foundation and having used some of the software for work previously, I learned a lot. The tutors I interacted with were very helpful. The materials are clear and provide many examples to delve deeper into the topics. The part I appreciated the most was the practical exercises, which allowed me to apply the concepts learned and solidify my understanding. Overall, I found this course useful.
This summer, I completed an Executive assistant on-line diploma course at Lewis college. I would recommend it to anyone keen to start a career in executive support. The course was hard work and quite intensive in view of assessment preparation. I had to put many hours of hard work in the evenings and at weekends, having a full-time day job. However, it was all worth it! The tutors were very helpful and always available to provide a guidance or advice. The course covered many interesting topics that helped me to improve my existing (little) knowledge and skills I had about executive support. The College uses an on-line hub to access the course modules that is very easy to use and navigate. Supporting learning materials available were clearly written and provided in-depth information on the topics. I was very keen on many modules, especially the ones that covered IT topics and Leadership skills. Completing the course was a big achievement for me and having a diploma helped me to secure my new role. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone keen to take up higher education course.
Medical Secretary Diploma Level 3 - finally completed. : ). It took me a bit longer - 22 months - to finish the course due to personal circumstances. I decided to extend it as I wanted to finish all units. I really enjoyed online course, I liked flexibility, and studying at your own pace. At times was challenging, but worth the effort. : )

I highly recommend Lewis College for its outstanding Medical Secretary Diploma. The course is very thorough and extremely interesting. I have improved my general IT skills and learnt many useful skills specific to medical secretary work. All exams can be taken at home which is really convenient. Some units include diary management, PowerPoint, Excel, writing medical letters and audio typing. I enjoyed every unit, the medical terminology was fascinating. The tutors are exceptional, give really useful feedback and couldn't be friendlier. If you want to study this course from home, you couldn't find anywhere better.

When I signed up for the Executive PA course with Lewis College, I had 15 years of experience as a PA but had simply trained on the job. I figured that while I was unemployed, I could keep myself occupied while earning a qualification to support my many years of experience. It provided me with the flexibility that I needed to study while taking care of my family.
The Executive PA course was outstanding. Content was extensive and covered a wide range of skills required for the role. Student portal was easy to navigate. Coursework was very well presented, easy to follow and equally challenging and engaging. Assignments are well thought out, clearly presented, and helped to prepare me for the assessments. I really enjoyed the online course, it was such a great experience for me. For a while, I was interested in a course like this and it filled all my exceptions. I really liked the flexibility of this course and the most valuable thing is that I have learned a lot over the last year and I gained new experiences thanks to my tutors and their support.

Truly wonderful experience working my way (in my own time) through all the units whilst working with incredibly passionate and kind tutors the whole time! I felt completely supported and like I could ask any questions. I found the entire course engaging and crucially I was learning new things/working on more challenging aspects. Not only was it really simple to apply but it has such a relaxed (but formal) approach when accessing workbooks on the online hub. I also enjoyed working on Typesy for my speed typing and also ExpressScribe for my audio transcriptions. All units felt very beneficial to complete. It has many different topics within the Secretarial course. The medical terminology course was certainly worth adding as I have so many new words and terms I can use as a bonus. I didn't even need to pay for the necessary books as they were provided for me with an Amazon voucher. I truly couldn't fault anything! I spent a long time comparing similar courses and this one definitely stood out to me.

You can sit the exams and do all study from home and it is excellent quality.
I chose this college because they are amazing and so helpful with everything. When asking a question they got back to me more or less within 24 hours which is so good considering the amount of students they have.

This is an excellent course. Although it was hard work, it was very stimulating and enjoyable, and does require a commitment, but the lessons in each module are easy to follow, the course material is ample, thorough and clear. The tutor support could not be better. The assessments are challenging but easy to follow. I really enjoyed my 18 months and now feel confident to be employed as a medical secretary. The course was very thorough and covered everything that is likely to be required in such a role. I can honestly say I loved it and really thought it was a brilliant course. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Lewis college. It is a very well run professional outfit. A big thank you to all the tutors who gave me their time, invaluable help and support during the last 18 months.
I have just completed Medical Secretary L3 Diploma Course and I had a very positive experience while doing the course. Recently completed my Executive PA Diploma with Lewis College. With the course being on-line you have the flexibility to study as and when suits you which is invaluable when judging study with work and family life. All the tutors have been supportive and encouraging and are always quick to respond to any queries / questions. Feedback on assessments submitted is always constructive and I have learnt so much.
