Intermediate Secretarial and Computer

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

This course provides a wide variety of qualifications for those who wish to have both secretarial and computer skills to an intermediate level.  This course can be studied through our distance learning scheme and is tutor led.

This course is great for getting you on the career ladder with the ability to apply for a wide range of jobs in either Secretarial or Administration work.

You will gain 2 Diplomas on the course - one in Secretarial skills and one in Computer/IT skills at a business standard.

You should study between 5-10 hours per week on average and based on this number of study hours per week, the course can be completed in approximately 4 months.  You have an overall time limit of 6 months within which to complete the course.

Included in the course is our unique Career and Job support service - which includes helping to design a professional CV, developing your interview techniques, looking at your options based on where you live and the types of businesses you would like to work in, supporting you as you apply for jobs and go for interview.

The course is one of our middle length courses and most students complete the course within 4 months based on 10 hours or more studying per week.

COURSE PROSPECTUS 

The course is broken down into 2 main sections – Secretarial and Computer/IT.

Secretarial

The Secretarial section covers all the key secretarial skills you will need to work as a more experienced Secretary. You will learn how to produce professional business documents from drafts and audio dictation using digital software, edit multi page documents, and use mail merge facilities.

Computer/IT

The Computer/IT section will enable you to use all the key Office applications to a professional standard.

Word (word processing), Excel (spreadsheets and charts), Access (databases), PowerPoint (slide presentations) and Outlook (email and personal information management) are covered.

You will learn how to create Word documents integrating information from other programs within it, file management in Windows Explorer.

You will also learn how to create professional slide presentations using PowerPoint for meetings, talks and exhibitions using special effects and graphics.

In Excel you will be learning how to create functions/formulae to provide complex calculations and present reports for business meetings, clients etc.

You will also learn how to create databases, how to create queries and produce professional reports using a range of calculations.

Finally you will also learn how to use Outlook which will help you organise yourself and your boss’ daily routine, set up appointments and meetings and use email and its range of facilities. 

QUALIFICATIONS

You will gain 2 Diplomas on this course with the OCR (Oxford, Cambridge and Royal Society of Arts) Examining Board as follows: 

Diploma in Text Processing Level 2 

  • Text Production
  • Word Processing
  • Audio Transcription
  • Mail Merge 

Diploma for IT Users (CLAIT Plus)

  • Word and File Management
  • Excel – spreadsheets and graphs
  • Access – databases
  • Outlook – email and personal information management
  • PowerPoint – slide presentations 

You will need Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint) to complete this course.

You will also need a computer with a printer and headphones (for the audio module) plus Internet connection.
