Having professional touch typing skills with a good speed is the hallmark of a quality Secretary or PA. Being able to operate the keyboard quickly and efficiently is also important for other job roles in Administration, Management, Teaching etc, in fact anyone who uses a computer for a good part of their daily working life.
Graduates and A Level students will also find this a useful skill to have to enable them to complete their course work more quickly and effectively.
Touch typing means you can operate the keyboard without looking at the keys and you use all the correct fingers on the keyboard. You will also adopt the correct typing techniques, developing a beat and rhythm in your touch typing, the ability to continually type for several minutes which requires concentration, as well as reducing the number of typing errors, which in turn slows down the production of any work.
You will use a combination of drill exercises and a typing program to help develop your technique in the early stages, followed by timed typing exercises to develop concentration and speed.
You will gain either the:
OCR Level 1 in Speedkeying or
OCR Level 2 in Speedkeyingor
OCR Level 3 in Speedkeying
Optional
