Having a qualification in Audio Transcription is a bonus for many jobs in the business world. You will be able to transcribe back from dictation a range of different business documents.
Most offices use audio dictation to record instructions for letters, reports, etc and being able to cope with these demands will enhance your job opportunities.
You will use a digital program supplied by the College to develop your Audio Transcription skills. There is no need to purchase any additional equipment, but it is advisable to have headphones to enable you to hear the dictation more clearly on your computer.
You will also develop your Business English and business terminology skills as well as your proof reading skills in these courses.
There are 3 Levels to choose from. For Level 2 and 3 you will need prior knowledge. Level 1 is for complete beginners.
Touch typing can be included in any of these courses to help develop your touch typing and speed typing skills. This is a free option for all of our Secretarial Courses.
You will gain either the:
OCR Level 1 in Audio Transcription or
OCR Level 2 in Audio Transcription or
OCR Level 3 in Audio Transcription
OCR (RSA) is an established exam board providing a range of GCSE, A Level, teaching and vocational qualifications.
OCR is part of the University of Cambridge which is Europe’s largest assessment board. They play a leading role in developing and delivering exams/assessments across the world, operating in over 150 countries.

LEWIS COLLEGE Certificate in Audio Transcription at Level 1, 2 or 3
Level 1
This level is for beginners and will cover some basic knowledge in how to present simple letters, menus, notices, reports and articles. You will learn how to have a consistent look to your work and follow dictated and written instructions.
You will learn how to use a range of different Word tools to produce these documents, develop your proof reading skills as well as production rate. You will develop your typing speed in excess of 35 pm.
You will also learn how to develop your ability to cope with operating the digital dictation program, your listening skills, and how to co-ordinate both listening and typing at the same time.
Examination preparation is included in the course.
Examination is by a timed exam of 1 hr 30 minutes through completion of 3 Tasks.
Level 2
This level is suitable for those with some basic knowledge in using Word and producing business documents. You will develop your skills to a business standard covering letters, articles, reports, FAX, press releases etc. Text will be of a business standard, and include longer documents which are more complex than Level 1.
You will learn how to have a consistent look to your work and follow dictated and written instructions, and ensure you insert relevant information in the correct place.
You will also learn how to develop your ability to cope with operating the digital dictation program, your listening skills, and how to co-ordinate both listening and typing at the same time to a business standard.
Your business English skills will also be developed.
You will develop your typing speed in excess of 45 wpm.
Examination preparation is included in the course.
Examination is by a timed exam of 1 hr 30 minutes through completion of 3 Tasks.
Level 3
This level is suitable for those who have already passed the Level 2 Audio Transcription exam, or who have worked at business level preparing documents from audio dictation.
You will develop your skills to an advanced level preparing complex business documents including letters, reports, articles, press releases, etc involving more display and complex jargon.
You will develop your business English skills and grammatical skills as well as high proof reading skills.
You will also learn how to develop your ability to cope with operating the digital dictation program, your listening skills, and how to co-ordinate both listening and typing at the same time to an advanced standard.
You will develop your typing speeds in excess of 55 wpm.
Examination preparation is included in the course.
Examination is by a timed exam of 1 hr 15 minutes through completion of 3 Tasks.
You can study this course full-time, or part-time – studying the number of hours per week that suits you and fits in with your other commitments.
We recommend that you study at least 5 hours a week, which can be broken up into one hour study slots perhaps, or 2-3 hours on a Saturday and Sunday if you find that easier.
Some students wish to study as quickly as possible – and complete the course in as short a time as possible.

The maximum duration within which a single Level course needs to be completed is 2 months.
The course is put on hold whilst you or the College are on holiday - enabling you to have holiday breaks whilst studying your course.
